FIRE EVACUATION PROCEDURES

For your peace of mind and safety in case there is a fire, please read the following information carefully:

PLAN AHEAD:

• When checking into your guest room, be sure to know where the fire exits are so that you can locate them in the dark.

• Locate the fire alarms and extinguishers on your floor.

• If your family is with you, arrange a meeting place outside of the Lodge so you will know everyone is safe.

• Keep your room key card where you can find it quickly.

IF YOU FIND A FIRE:

• Remain calm.

• Pull the nearest fire alarm.

• Call the hotel’s emergency number (dial 0) and give your exact location.

• Do not attempt to extinguish the fire. Evacuate the area immediately.

• The Highlands staff and fire department personnel will assist you in your evacuation efforts.

IF THE FIRE ALARM SOUNDS:

• Remain calm.

• Take your room key card with you.

• If smoke is present, crawl or stay near the floor, air is freshest.

• Test the doors for heat before you open them. If the door is hot, do not open the door. If the door is cool, open it carefully, looking for smoke. If there is smoke outside, close the door immediately.

• If the hallway is clear, quickly head towards the nearest exit. Do not use the elevators.

• Exit with caution. Test the door for heat before opening and watch for black smoke in the stairwell.

• Do not leave doors open.

• If the fire exit is unsafe or begins to fill with black smoke from below, take the stairwell up and find a clear hallway in which to cross to the opposite fire exit; then proceed down and out of the building. If this is impossible, return to your room and remain calm.

IF YOU MUST STAY IN YOUR ROOM:

• Call The Highlands emergency number (dial 0) to let the operator know of your exact location.

• Keep exterior doors or windows closed to prevent smoke from being drawn into your room.

• If your room has a bathtub, immediately fill with water. Use an ice bucket or similar object to drench the carpet with water.

• Place wet towels, sheets or blankets under the door to your room to keep smoke from entering.

• Cover any air vents with a wet cloth.

• Keep a wet cloth over your nose and mouth to filter out smoke.

• Place something in your window to let fire personnel know you are still in
your suite.

• Leave your room door unlocked if possible and remain calm.

EMERGENCY EXITS

In the event of a fire or other emergency, please go to the nearest stairwell exit as shown on the back of your room door. Do not attempt to use the elevators unless instructed to do so by rescue personnel.
