Harbor Springs Selected Among Top 10 Best Bike Towns

Spotlight on The Highlands’ Bike Park

Harbor Springs has been honored as one of the Top 10 Best Bike Towns in America by Outside Magazine, a testament to its exceptional cycling routes and vibrant mountain biking scene at The Highlands.

Why Harbor Springs Shines
The charming waterfront village of Harbor Springs earned its place on the prestigious list thanks to an outstanding score in People for Bikes’ test rankings for connectivity. The article called out cyclists in Harbor Springs ability to enjoy a seamless and safe riding experience, with low-traffic, low-speed streets that allow easy access to grocery stores, schools, parks, and more. The town’s flat terrain, combined with the 26-mile Little Traverse Wheelway, a scenic greenway that connects Harbor Springs to several neighboring communities winding along the shores Little Traverse Bay, further enhances its appeal as a cyclist’s haven.

The Highlands: Trailblazing Mountain Biking
While Harbor Springs is celebrated for its in-town cycling, The Highlands is praised for elevating the area as a top destination for mountain biking. The resort’s lift-served Bike Park offers an extensive network of 22 miles of mountain bike trails designed for riders of all skill levels. The Dirt Sample trail, a double-black downhill trail, was called out as a favorite for its challenging wooden features, including jumps, drops, and berms.

“I'm excited to see our mountain biking trails and Bike Park recognized as a top destination,” said Julie Rogers, director of marketing for The Highlands. “Our trails offer something for everyone, from beginners to seasoned riders, and the Bike Park is a place where families can come together and enjoy the outdoors. We take pride in being able to provide an accessible and fun experience here in northern Michigan.”

Mountain Biking Events & Park Access
Bikers wanting to enjoy the best of fall can take advantage of several events and a Late Season Pass at The Highlands. Chips in the Woods takes place August 31 in the Bike Park, and cross-country riders can join Biketemberfest on September 20-21. The Highlands also has a Late Season Bike Park Pass offering unlimited access now through October 13 for just $79 for kids ages 12 and under, and $99 for teens and adults.
