The Highlands 2030
The Transformation Has Begun
For decades, Boyne Highlands has been a special place where people enjoy the best moments of life. A setting we call home, with its own distinct charm and sense of place. Here, we celebrate the four seasons of northern Michigan, enjoy the warmth of our Harbor Springs community, and welcome guests from far and wide. As we look to re-establish our place as the Grand Dame of four-season resorts in the Midwest, Boyne Highlands is transforming into The Highlands. We have mapped a transformation for the years to come, one we mean to achieve in the most sustainable way possible through what we call the ForeverProject.
The late, great founder of this story, Everett Kircher, once said, “You have to make improvements. Otherwise, you won’t make progress.” So here we go. We’re building a better future, sharing every step as we go. Most of all, we’re making more room for the stories that will transform people’s lives forever.
Our Featured Projects
Our story started over 60 years ago, and most recently, we finished the next phase of our future with the renovation of the Main Lodge guest rooms and bathrooms. Our journey continues, and our featured projects are one of many transformations taking place around the resort
Interconnect Lift Upgrade
The new Interconnect triple lift will significantly improve the guest experience by providing better accessibility to the North Peak region. With a faster ascent and increased capacity, riders will spend a third less time on the lift.
Doon Brae Short Course
The new par-3 short course will be named “Doon Brae.” In Scottish, Doon means going down into a valley, and Brae means hillside. The course is on the site of the former Cuff Links nine-hole par-3 course
Donald Ross Memorial Course Upgrades:
The golf course is a compilation of classic golf holes designed by Donald Ross and recreated at The Highlands from some of the architect’s most renowned courses.

The Pillars of Our 2030 Journey
Our pillars will build the foundation for the resort’s growth through 2030 and beyond.
Distinction in Hospitality
Everett Kircher was an innovator. His vision for what is now The Highlands was a blend of English country estate and American spirit – “envisioned as the Grande Dame of four-season Midwest resorts.” That vision lives on today.
Environment of Wellbeing
The clean, crisp northern Michigan air on the ski slopes or the manicured lawns of summer are an essential part of the experience at The Highlands, creating a year-round lifestyle.
Four-Season Innovation
Our roots are in innovation – Everett Kircher was a sports and hospitality pioneer. Today we aim to bring that originality to a 365-day Highlands experience and cater to the needs of new generations.
Community Partnership
The Highlands is part of an extraordinary community, and one that draws visitors from far and wide. Our roots in this community make us who we are.
Sustainability Focus
Our legacy and privilege, the experience that we pass on to our guests, is the land The Highlands calls home. It’s our duty to protect and nurture it and set an example for others.
